The Maitre d': A Legacy of Failure (in Pixels) - Part 2

The Maitre d': A Legacy of Failure

As I mentioned in part one, I've been screwing around with the GIMP for years.

Before I continue on, I figured I'd trot out a couple of banner ads I created back in the day. Again, this was back when I was active in the Jedi Knight community, so I did some web design/programming work for a couple of fan sites. (Including the site for the SPORK mod, a.k.a. Legacy of the Jedi. Sadly, the site seems to be hacked and the server-side includes are hosed.)

One of those was Jedi Legacy, which, as I mentioned, was home to the unparalleled -ite culture:

Speaking of which, remember the old 468x60 banner ads like this? Remember when they were actually considered the future of the digital economy? Before the dark times. Before the Empire Dot-Com Bubble.

Anyway, as JK was sort of dying out--and that took years, which is kind of surprising--Episode I: Obi-Wan was being announced. One of the guys in the community (I want to say Jeff Walters, but I can't remember) was setting up a fan site for it. So I did a couple of banners:

Yeeesh. I admit, those are lens flares there behind Ewan McGregor, and they are unnecessary.

Anyway, I don't think those were ever used. I'm not even sure that ObiWanKenobi.net got off the ground, and frankly, it may have been for the better. As soon as Episode I: Obi-Wan was announced, a lot of people in the community believed it was going to be the successor to the Dark Forces legacy. (It wasn't.)
