The Maitre d': A Legacy of Failure (in Pixels) - Part 2

The Maitre d': A Legacy of Failure

Back in the day, there was a short-lived club at TWC called the Science Club. One would think by the name that we did scientific stuff. The truth is, we didn't really do much. But we did have the intention of promoting science education in the community. Honest.

The Science Club ended up being a good place to hang out with friends. This was back in the olden days at TWC, back in the days of the "Bella Mafia." Despite the name (which admittedly sounds like something the authorities should be suspicious about), we were pretty mild-mannered. Anyway, the Science Club ended up being little more than an official excuse to let the Mafia hang out in one of the fancy meeting rooms around the cafeteria once a week. Even our faculty sponsor, Dr. Shelley (who was only at TWC a year, I think) fit in pretty well to the Bella Mafia culture.

Good times. Good times.

Anyway, we briefly talked about doing a website, and since I was the chief geek in the group, that task fell to me. (Actually, I think I was the chief geek at TWC as a whole for a short time--we were a pretty small college.) So here's some of the stuff I came up with for the website, which was never actually finished:

At this point, I should mention, I'd figured out how to work with sketches in GIMP. It was a far cry from my current technique, but it was pretty good nonetheless.

During one of our meetings, Charlie proposed one of the greatest mottos I've ever heard for the Science Club. I'm not sure if he stole it from somewhere or came up with it himself. I'm not sure he even remembers how hilarious it was. But it was so great, I had to come up with an image for it:

Science Club Motto

While I'm mentioning it, I also worked up this logo for the also-very-short-lived gaming club we tried to start at TWC, the Role Player's Guild:

The resemblance to the current TVGA logo is not particularly accidental.

And speaking of gaming, I still haven't shown you the character sketches of my D&D characters!
