Digitally Inking Sketches with Inkscape and GIMP – Part 2

In Part 1 of our article, we saw how we could use Inkscape to create a vector image version of our sketch. What we start out with doesn’t look half bad, but it’s pretty flat:

We want to punch it up a bit, and to do that, we’re going to want to use GIMP. So, if you’re following along at home, you’ll want to go ahead and install that before reading.

Photoshop might work, but it all depends on whether it will import SVGs as paths like GIMP will. (Personally, I likes my software cheap and legal, so I use GIMP.) If not, you can still use some of these techniques to work with paths in Photoshop, as they should work the same way as GIMP’s path features do.
